PATTERNHUNTING is an applied research methodology designed to reliably predict and influence the movement of ideas, influence and innovation through social networks. Drawing upon social network analysis, statistics, game theory, social psychology and related fields, patternhunters work to design methods for quickly improving human performance and increasing collective intelligence.
"As far back as 1984, ASTD informed us that more than 80 percent of what people learn is through informal means, less than 20 percent of what people learn is through formal instruction on which workplace educators spend so much time and money. That’s confirmed by recent research by the Educational Development Center, indicating that 70 to 80 percent of learning occurs informally through processes that aren’t structured or sponsored by the organization" (Weintraub and Martineau, 2002).

PATTERNHUNTER INC. is a Colorado-based consulting and software development company specializing in peer-to-peer knowledge sharing practices that integrate augmented social networks, reputation systems, performance metrics, self-paced training and individual coaching systems.
